2025 SXSW Music Festival - Saturday 3/15 Quelle Rox, SXSW La Buena Onda at Vaquero Taquero & Jean Paul Medroa
As we wrap up our coverage of SXSW Music Festival 2025, we can’t help but reflect on the journey this festival has been, not just for us, but for the artists, fans, and the music community as a whole. SXSW serves as a launchpad for emerging talent while also being a space for established artists to connect with new audiences. For us at Otra X Favor, it’s always an honor to host many of these artists in our space, witness their stories firsthand and then see them take the stage at one of the biggest festivals in the country.
Kicking Off the Night with Quelle Rox
Our evening started at Seven Grand, where we connected with an artist we first met, Chelle Rox from Brooklyn, New York. She was featured in an article in Remezcla and has transformed heartache into ethereal R&B. During her set, Quelle Rox brought her friend Andria Rose to the stage, and together, they delivered a stunning performance with incredible chemistry.
Buena Onda at Taquero Vaquero – A Night of Friends and Talent
From there, we made our way to SXSW La Buena Onda organized by Norf Norf & MAS Cultura. The lineup was stacked with familiar faces, artists whose journeys we’ve been following for a while.
XP Valentine
Bianca Rodriguez was the first act we caught. Seeing her live for the first time was a moment in itself. Beyond the music, her personal story adds another level of admiration. She’s been training for a half-marathon, showing the same level of dedication and discipline in her training as she does in her music. That level of commitment speaks volumes about her work ethic.
Vintage J
The founder of La Buena Onda, Jay Herrera, was up next, bringing his storytelling through rap to the stage. Vintage J also played a key role in organizing this showcase and helps coordinate events for the nonprofit MAS Cultura, an organization that continues to make a significant impact on the Latino community in Austin.
Adrian Activo
Over time, we've had the privilege of getting to know Adrian Activo, and it’s been inspiring to witness his evolution as a performer. He is an artist we don’t want anyone to miss out on. Adrian Activo is also known for maintaining a calm demeanor when things aren’t syncing during his sets, something that speaks volumes about his character both on and off the stage.
Short Life
When it comes to jumping between rap, rock, corridos, and dembow, Shortlife is known for doing it all. He is aiming high with his music and setting his own standard by blending genres. Behind him is Échale Parr, his older brother, who is a master at producing music.
Grace Sorensen
One of the artists we were eager to see in person was Grace Sorensen. Having followed her music for some time, finally watching her live was a full-circle moment. We hope to have her join us for a collaboration soon!
SUXXY PUXXY
Suxxy Puxxy WAS BUSY during the festival, from Café con Ron to Perreo Club & this event, she came thru with bangers that had everyone vibing. We couldn’t forget to mention the order artists that were part of this line-up. Shout out to Hierba Malita, Lorean A, Heavuh, Ella Ella, DJ Cortez, EDDY, Sam Sage & DJ Ortiz.
Midnight with Jean Paul Medroa at Las Perlas
Peruvian singer-songwriter Jean Paul Medroa had his midnight set at Las Perlas. One of the most incredible aspects of the SXSW Music Festival is how it brings musicians together in unexpected ways. His set was intimate yet full of connection, as the crowd, many hearing him for the first time, became deeply engaged with his music. While covering his set, we also had the chance to greet our friends Alex Camet and Tomás Volpi from Chicoselfie.
A Final Thank You to SXSW
With that, we conclude our coverage of the 2025 SXSW Music Festival. Once again, this festival has been an incredible experience, allowing us to discover new music, support artists we believe in, and celebrate the power of live performances.
We want to thank everyone who followed our daily recaps, supported the artists, and shared their own festival experiences with us. We also want to recognize everyone working behind the scenes, who, in one way or another, contributed to making this festival a smooth and enjoyable experience for all who attended the showcases.
Until next time, see you at the next show!
